Robin Fryer BAcc., CA(SA), CPA (US) has been appointed as treasurer of The University of the Witwatersrand Fund Inc.
Rob was born in the United Kingdom and grew up in Johannesburg, where he attended St. Stithians College before going on to study at Wits in 1964 to follow in his father’s footsteps and become a professional accountant. A long and successful career at Deloitte, including global leadership roles, followed. Over a 45 year period, Rob was based at various times in South Africa, Continental Europe, United Kingdom and United States, and traveled to 60 countries working with clients and Deloitte professionals.
Rob has lived in Connecticut, an hour from New York, for the past 20 years. Since retiring as a Deloitte partner, he has served on several company boards as well as non-profit boards, and does financial consulting work.
Rob is married and has two adult children who live in New York. He has been a dedicated runner for nearly 50 years and has completed 120 marathons and ultramarathons, including 13 Comrades Marathons. He also loves to hike, swim and ski, and enjoys playing tennis and golf.
In addition to his time as a student at Wits, Rob served as the Public Accountants’ and Auditors’ Board’s liaison with the Wits School of Accountancy in the 1980’s and as an active member of the board of the Commerce Faculty during that period.
