Meeting Health Challenges in Africa

The School of Public Health at Wits has established an enviable track record in training and research that aims to improve health in South Africa and the African continent. Wits has embarked on an exciting project to create a new integrated environment suitable for this leading player in public health, providing research facilities and training to public health practitioners, researchers and managers in South Africa and the African continent.

Fundamental to Africa's development is improving the continent's health status. Inadequately functioning health systems and poor health service delivery mean that possible gains are not fully realized.

The new Public Health Building will be a world-class facility that will provide a physical space for intellectual engagement and greater interaction between the school's nine different units; improved facilities for research and training; accessibility for the school's work to a wider range of stakeholders.

Investing in the new Public Health Building at Wits is an investment beyond Wits—it is a contribution to developing the continent. We aim to provide a modern Public Health Building that will maintain and extend the School's local and pan-African partnershps and play an active role in fostering intellectual communities.

Located near the Wits Medical School, the energy efficient and environmentally-friendly building will have modern landscaping and a humanist design that will optimize public engagement, staff interaction and innovative approaches to teaching.
