Cliff McMillan is a Principal of Arup, the global consulting engineering firm where he has served for 50 years, mostly in South Africa and, since 1999, in the New York office. He is a Past-President of the SA Institution of Civil Engineers and the SA Association of Consulting Engineers and a winner of a FOYSA (Four Outstanding Young South Africans) award. He served in various roles opposing apartheid until 1992, was a participant in the Consultative Business Movement during the political transition years, and was the founder in 1980 and active chairman of PROTEC (Program for Technological Careers), which provides programs to students in disadvantaged communities. He was invited to give two Wits graduation addresses, where he spoke on the theme of engineering with a social conscience.

Projects for which Cliff has been responsible feature prominently on the skyline of South African cities and also contributed to vital infrastructure and industrial facilities. In New York his prominent projects include the major refurbishment of the Lincoln Center campus and the 5-mile Hudson River Park.
